Banners used at concerts and fan meetings of K-pop acts like BTS and SEVENTEEN are being recycled to produce items such as bags and wallets.
BTS' management agency Hybe on Jan. 22 said it joined a creative reuse project with the upcycling brand Nukak dubbed "Hybe X Nukak Upcycling Merch."
This venture uses banners used at concerts and fan meetings of BTS, SEVENTEEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER (aka TXT), ENHYPEN and LE SSERAFIM. One of the banners was used at last year's BTS Festa in June last year to mark the 10th anniversary of BTS' debut.
The banners used at most concerts are discarded after the events end. Hybe said it joined the project so that fans can retain memories of the performances long after the events through limited edition goods made from the banners.
Nukak washes the collected banners, coats the surface to enhance durability and improves the fabric's quality through anti-pollution treatment. Afterwards, the fabric is cut and handmade into items such as card wallets, pouches, and drawstring and messenger bags.
Upcycling is the process of making new goods using materials from used items and creating new value in going beyond mere recycling. Nukak is a global upcycling brand that receives banners from companies and organizations to manufacture items such as bags, wallets and smartphone cases.
