The Korean Embassy in Japan on Feb. 20 dispatched staff to Noto Peninsula, which was hit hard by an earthquake on Jan. 1, providing food and relief supplies to victims.

Ambassador to Japan Yun Duk-min, embassy staff and members of the Korean consulate general in Niigata, Japan, visited that day Yatago Community Center in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture. There, they made and served samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and tteokguk (rice cake soup) for about 140 victims of the disaster and provided necessities for evacuees such as water, tissue and masks.

Distributing samgyetang, the ambassador said, "People in Korea eat samgyetang when they have low energy," adding, "I hope people here can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."

The embassy also pledged to continue supporting the victims.
