A Korean national born in 2005 can attend performances and exhibitions this year using a new voucher for culture and arts.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Arts Council Korea (ARKO) on March 28 from 10 a.m. began accepting applications for the Youth Culture and Arts Pass through their partner ticketing companies Interpark and Yes24.

Any citizen born in 2005 who lives in the country regardless of income level can apply for the pass, the first of its kind in the country.

Issuance will come on a first-come, first-served basis from March 28 at 10 a.m. based on the number of youths designated in each of the nation's 17 cities and provinces. Depending on region, the application period could be closed early.

Using its points, the voucher can be used to buy tickets for exhibitions and performing arts like musicals, classical music and live theater. It will be valid from the date of issuance to Dec. 31.

Amid expanded opportunities for youth to see cultural and artistic events, 11 national arts institutions including Korean National Ballet will also provide discounted tickets to their events to pass holders.

The discount varies for each event. More information on participating organizations and performances will be available from the middle of next month on ARKO's social media (blog.naver.com/jump_arko or www.instagram.com/arkokorea).
