The inaugural Korea-Africa Summit was launched on June 4 as the first multilateral dialogue between Korea and nations on the continent.

Attended by 48 African countries like Ethiopia, Mozambique and Tunisia, the event from early morning attracted global media personnel to the related media center.

President Yoon Suk Yeol opened the morning session a little past 9:30 a.m. by giving a welcoming speech. The eyes of some 150 reporters at the facility were glued to a large screen broadcasting the event live, with their hands rapidly typing on their laptops.

Rwandan TV personality Maronko Moise on June 4 speaks to Korea.net's Arabic staff writer Israa Mohamed. He said he felt as if he was home after seeing so many Africans at the media center and that at the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit, he helped for bilateral cooperation to get better established.

A reporter from Cote d'Ivoire and another from Togo called the summit "well prepared" because Korea acknowledged the achievements and values of African countries, adding that with 48 African countries attending the event, they hoped for a closer relationship with Korea.

Hariana Veras, an Angolan TV personality covering the summit who runs a TV program on information about Africa, said she hoped for the event to serve as an opportunity for Korea and Africa to unite and for Africa to receive Korea's strong information and communications technology. She hailed the media center as convenient and neatly arranged with everything necessary for news coverage.

After the morning and afternoon sessions, President Yoon and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, whose country chairs the African Union this year, were scheduled to announce a joint news release.
