Busan Pay, a payment method exclusively for foreign nationals, will be launched on June 20.
Busan Metropolitan City on June 19 said any foreign national who registers the program's exclusive prepaid card on the mobile app can use Busan Pay from June 20.
The service offers functions such as benefits and cashback when paying with Busan's digital currency Dongbaekjeon, functions need by foreign users like payment for public transportation, menu guidance in foreign languages, tourism information, and purchase and use of the Visit Busan Pass through an app and prepaid card.
International users can download the app on the Play Store or App Store by searching for "Busan Pay." They can also purchase the exclusive prepaid cards at unmanned kiosks located at Gimhae International Airport and Busan Station and main tourism information centers within the city.
The main functions are Dongbaekjeon payment that can be topped up on the app with an overseas credit card and paying through a card or quick-response (QR) codes.
Travel functions such as information on leading tourist attractions, top restaurants, and tourist guides in English and Chinese are available through the app and exclusive websites. The mobile Visit Busan Pass is also available for purchase, and the menu service in other languages will be connected in phases from the second half of this year.
For using public transportation, users can purchase the Busan Metro Mobile QR commuter pass available in one and three-day versions. The Busan Pay card for use in riding mass transit such as buses and taxis are available for purchase at designated Busan Bank branches.
And a call center for Busan Pay with operators speaking English, Japanese and Chinese and a one-on-one Q&A service will also be on the app.
