The Seoul-based International Vaccine Institute (IVI) on Feb. 21 opened its global bioresource center Biorepository to respond to new infectious diseases and pandemics.
The center is expected to further boost international cooperation in responding to infectious diseases.
Covering 1,255 square m, the facility preserves over four million bioresource samples.
Storing 210,000 clinical samples and pathogens, the Biorepository supports the safe storage and use of pathogens and human-derived resources collected at home and abroad.
Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Commissioner Jee Youngmee said, "We hope that the IVI's Biorepository plays a central role in the collection and use of bioresources and develops into a strong global partner of the KDCA in vaccine research to prepare for future pandemics."
