The National Archives of Korea (NAK) under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has conducted a major overhaul of records to mark the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the 1950-53 Korean War.
Released on June 25 on the NAK website, the revised content allows easy user comprehension and accessibility in focusing on the war's background and development, damage inflicted and introduction of related records.
The agency also reinforced the content by reflecting additional records that it collected and improved the overall structure and visual components.
NAK presents the reality of the war in a more 3D method using records on human casualties during the war such as investigation records on damage like additional lists of kidnap victims and prisoners, as well as photos and video records from major archival organizations abroad like those in the U.S., U.K. and Russia.
Also included are materials from relevant bodies to allow comprehensive understanding of the historical context of the war including the background and outbreak, such as a 1947 resolution from the United Nations General Assembly now at the National Museum of Korean History on national liberation and a 1950 combat order from the North Korean army housed at the National Library of Korea in Seoul.
Mainly comprising text, the spruced-up content has been reorganized to stress visual elements such as maps, pictures and diagrams. Accessibility and convenience were also improved after the website's revamp into a responsive portal that automatically optimizes content according to screen size and resolution for easy use on various devices including mobile gizmos.
