The country is sharing its know-how in registering UNESCO World Heritage to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Korea Heritage Service on July 9 said that along with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, it held an international training workshop on the UNESCO Memory of the World from July 8-11 in Panama City, Panama.
The event's purpose was to help countries in the region wishing to inscribe their items on the Memory of the World list to better understand the UNESCO registration process and enhance their capacities to fill out applications.
The focus was resolving the difficulty of developing countries getting global recognition of their heritage due to failure to meet the criteria for registration.
Attending the workshop were officials for Memory of the World registration from the Dominican Republic, Belize, Suriname, Sint Maarten, Aruba, Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Paraguay.
The talks discussed the latest trends in the Memory of the World system and the status of each country. Participants later received intensive training on the application process and filling out the form.
They also received instruction on writing and presenting a preliminary application for a country's nomination records for listing, and experts later reviewed and evaluated each form.
Launched in 2009 in Seoul, the workshop has seen 18 records that it handled added to the Memory of the World's global list and 11 to its regional edition.
