The top searches on Google Korea this year were the June 3 presidential election (news), President Lee Jae Myung (people), animated blockbuster "KPop Demon Hunters" (film) and "young 40 look" trend (fashion).

Google on Dec. 4 released its 2025 report on searches that analyzed search trends among Korean users, showing shifts in user interests globally and by country based on year-on-year growth in search volume.

The 17 categories covered by the report included news, people, meaning, methods, film, games, dramas and series, and travel destinations.

The top item in news was the June 3 presidential election. Early voting ranked eighth, showing heightened user interest in the vote.

A big increase was seen in the volume of searches for things related to the people's livelihood. The government's dual-round program of a stimulus coupon to boost domestic consumption was a popular item in news, with the manner of applying for the benefit topping the methods section.

Repeated leaks of personal information by mobile carriers were also big in Google searches, with USIM protection services ranking 10th in news.

President Lee was the most searched figure in the people category, followed by Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang (sixth), celebrity chef Paik Jong-won (ninth) and Kakao Corp.'s Chief Product Officer Hong Mintaek (10th).

In the meaning category, the term "remand" was tops and "impeachment" second, reflecting how major judicial issues this year raised interest in related searches including court rulings and Constitutional Court decisions.

In entertainment, "KPop Demon Hunters" ranked first in the film and K-pop song and dance categories, attesting to its unrivaled popularity. In dramas and series, the hit K-dramas "When Life Gives You Tangerines," "Squid Game" and "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" were among the top searches.

The champion in the fashion category was the "young 40 look," the fashion trend of the year that went viral on TV and social media.
