29 years, and a complete victory in all 11 games.

These two numbers will be meaningful in Korean baseball history. The team won the championship game of the 2014 Little League World Series that took place on August 24 at Lamade Stadium in south Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by defeating their rival, the Chicago team 8 to 4.

It is the first such achievement in 29 years of little league baseball history. Korea won consecutive championships in 1984 and 1985 but has not qualified for the competition since, until this year.

The little league baseball team showed a near-perfect performance at all eleven games including prelimininary competitions with Asia-Pacific regions as well as two games against the powerful Japanese. The world series final with Chicago, from the nation where baseball originated, got off to a smooth start, too.

Following Sin Dong-wan's two base hits in the first inning, Hwang Jae-yeong drove in two runs to achieve the first score. Adding one more run in the third inning, Korea began to outpace its rival. The Korean team gave away one run in the bottom of third inning, but caught up again with an addition of one more during the fourth and fifth innings, followed by four more at the top of the sixth inning including the solo homer of leadoff hitter Choi Hae-chan, putting the game beyond reach.

The U.S. team made three hits and three scores in the bottom of sixth inning, trying to catch up, but Korea finished the game by hitting an infield grounder.

Player Sin Dong-wan, who hit a solo homer in the fifth inning, said, "I want to go to Cheong Wa Dae and meet the president," during an interview with ESPN (Entertainment and Sports Programming Network).

Player Choi Hae-chan, the victorious pitcher, said, "I thought I was able to make it after two out counts." Manager Park Jong-wook said, "We knew the time difference and that a lot of people were cheering for us in Korea. We appreciate the people. I told the kids that in a speech."

Before the final game started, Korean-Americans clad in the traditional outfit of the hanbok gathered at the stadium to cheer the Korean kids to victory. Some Japanese players wore Korean uniforms to the game, too.
