Three pairs of Korean badminton athletes have swept the podium in the recently concluded badminton world championships.
Ko Sung-hyun and Shin Baek-cheol secured the top spot by defeating the top seeded team of Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong, also Korean, by 2-1 in the men’s doubles final on August 31 in the Li Ning BWF World Championships 2014 being held at the Ballerup Super Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. Kim Ki-jung and Kim Sa-rang of Korea became the bronze winners.

Neck-and-neck matches continued into the all-Korean finals. They all knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses, as they trained together at the Korea National Training Center in Taeneung, Seoul. Ko Sung-hyun and Shin Baek-cheol captured the eyes of the audience by playing a tight match against Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong in the first set. Ko and Shin won the first set 22-20, but lost the second set. They were able to finalize their victory in the third set with a win of 21-18.

After playing an excellent game for about 80 minutes, Ko said, “I feel really great. This is the first time to win the championship since we became partners. I am so happy to win the gold in front of so many people.”

The Korean national men's badminton players have now shown a perfect performance by fully displaying their capability in this championship. They have also boosted expectations for gold ahead of the upcoming Incheon Asian Games 2014.
