South Korea on Tuesday was welcomed into the athletes' village in Rio de Janeiro ahead of the Summer Olympics.

South Korea was joined by Honduras, Lebanon, Togo and Comoros in the welcoming ceremony. The main contingent of the South Korean delegation arrived in Rio last Wednesday.

The ceremony on Tuesday was attended by Chung Mong-gyu, top diplomat for the country, and some 50 athletes from boxing, fencing, handball and table tennis.

"With this ceremony, it finally feels like the Olympics is upon us," Chung said afterward. "We've enjoyed great weather, and the circumstances are better than expected. If our athletes avoid injuries and perform to the best of their abilities, we should be able to realize our goal."

Chung was referring to South Korea's target of winning at least 10 gold medals to finish in the top 10 in the medal race.

South Korea will be represented by 204 athletes and 129 officials in 24 of 28 sports in Rio. Through Monday, 177 athletes and officials were in Rio.
