As part of the test events for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the International Skating Union (ISU) World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships took place at the Gangneung Oval in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, from Feb. 9 to 12. The Netherlands took the gold in the men’s 1,000m race on Feb. 11.
On Feb. 11 in the men’s 1,000 m race, the third day of the championships, Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands won ahead of second place Vincent De Haitre of Canada. Kai Verbij of the Netherlands took third place.
