President Moon Jae-in congratulated men’s skeleton gold medalist Yun Sungbin on winning the nation’s first-ever gold medal in any sliding event.

President Moon wrote in his congratulatory note on Feb. 16 that, “You showed to us that we can be the best in the world if we try and dare to challenge a new field. Your victory today has made us feel more courageous and more confident.

“Sledding, a winter pass time of our childhood, has become national entertainment because of you. I’m sure that you will lead the nation as a skeleton power in the world,” he wrote.

Before Yun, the president sent congratulatory messages to other Korean medalists, too, including to the nation’s first PyoengChang gold medalist Lim Hyojin in the men’s 1,500 m short track speed skating on Feb. 10, and to bronze medalist Kim Min Seok in the men’s 1,500 m speed skating on Feb. 13.
