The national soccer team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup secured a 2:0 win against Honduras during an international friendly match that was held at Daegu Stadium on May 28.

Team Korea, under the leadership of coach Shin Tae-yong, defeated Honduras with two goals by Son Heung-min, from Tottenham Hotspur, and Moon Seon-min, from Incheon United, in the friendly match ahead of the World Cup.

The new soccer players, who made their first debut as national representatives, clearly showed their potential during the match. Moon Seon-min had his debut goal and is now a rising star of Team Korea. Lee Seung-woo, from Hellas Verona, who also made his debut in this match, stormed the midfield and recorded his first assist.

The ace of Team Korea, Son Heung-min, who had the captain’s armband and scored the first goal in the match, appraised his new teammates, and said, "The players who made their debut in this match really did great and deserve to be applauded.”

He added, “However, this is not the end of the game. In fact, the World Cup is our main stage. I think we shouldn’t be too satisfied with the results of today’s match, because the higher our goal is, the harder we’ll strive to achieve it, and the better the results will turn out to be.”

This match marked the introduction of a new headset communication system that will be used at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The headsets allow staff in the stands to transmit messages to the head coach.

Korea's final international friendly match before the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Jeonju on June 1.
