Cyclist Na Ahreum with her teammates Kim Youri, Kim Hyunji and Lee Jumi clinched the gold medal in the final rounds of the cycling track women’s team pursuit event, defeating China, at the Jakarta International Velodrome on Aug. 28. Na has now become the first Korean athletes at this year’s Asian Games to win three gold medals. Previously here in Indonesia, she won gold medals in the cycling road 20 km individual time trial and in the 100 km individual road race events.

Korean archers also won several medals that day. They took first place in the recurve men’s individual, in the compound men’s team and in the compound women’s team events, at the Gelora Bung Archery Field in Jakarta. In the recurve men’s individual event, world champion Kim Woojin took the gold and world No. 2 Lee Wooseok nabbed silver.

Team Korea maintains its third-place position on the medals table, with 32 gold, 40 silver and 46 bronze medals.

The unified Korean canoe team had its final day together in Palembang, too. The team is the first joint inter-Korean team to win a medal at an international sporting event.

The joint team won the gold medal in the canoe TBR 500 m women's event on Aug. 26, letting Korea’s folk song “Arirang” to be played during the awards ceremony for the first time at an international muti-sports event. The canoe team also won bronze medals in the TBR 1000 m men's and in the TBR 200 m women's events.
