Star striker Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur has been named to "Team of the Week" of the English Premier League (EPL) after scoring in his team's 1-0 win over Manchester City in the opening weekend of the 2021-22 EPL season.
The EPL on Aug. 16 named Son as a forward in its 4-3-3 frontline formation in "Alan Shearer's Team of the Week" on the league's official website and social media accounts.
Shearer, one of the best players in EPL history, makes his picks for the league's best 11 players every week. "What a goal, and what a way to earn a win over the champions," he said. "Son caused Man City problems with his pace and skill."
At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Son on Aug. 15 started the game at striker. His goal came in the 55th minute on a left-footed shot from the right side of the opponent's penalty box.
This goal gave his team its first win of the season, 1-0, over last year's league champion City.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Richarlison (Everton) joined Son as the forwards in the best 11.
Others on the team were midfielders Mohamed Said Benrahma (West Ham), Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) and defenders Marcos Alonso, Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Ethan Pinnock (Brentford) and Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham).
Alisson Becker (Liverpool) was the goalkeeper.
