Woo Sang-hyeok has made history as the first Korean to win a world title in a track and field event.
At Stark Arena in Belgrade, Serbia, on March 20 (Korea time), he cleared 2.34 m to capture the gold medal in the men's high jump final of the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
He also tried to set a personal best of 2.37 m but failed.
By clearing 2.35 m in last year's Tokyo Summer Olympics, Woo broke a Korean record that had stood for 27 years. On Feb. 6 this year, he set a personal best of 2.36 m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour in Hustopece, the Czech Republic.
He also set his Instagram ID as "WOO_238," implying that his next goal is to clear 2.38 m and go beyond winning Korea's first Olympic medal in the event by claiming gold at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
