Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur has made history as the first Asian player to score 20 goals in one of Europe's top five soccer leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France).

On the 36th week of the English Premier League's (EPL) 2021–22 season, the striker on May 7 scored the first goal of the game against Liverpool 11 minutes into the second half at Anfield in Liverpool, England.

Son is aiming to become the first Asian to finish as the EPL goal leader, trailing frontrunner Mohamed Salah of Liverpool by two goals. This feat is something no Asian has accomplished in the 130-year history of the league based in the birthplace of modern soccer.

Also scoring his 90th career goal in the EPL, Son could tie his season-best 22 goals in all competitions that he set last season. So far this season, he has 20 in England and one in the UEFA Champions League.

The BBC gave Son its highest player rating for the game of 7.69 and the soccer statistics site whoscored.com awarded him its highest score of 7.4. He was also voted "King of the Match" by fans.

In the 1-1 draw, Tottenham allowed a late Liverpool score in the 29th minute of the second half.
