The national team's uniform to be worn at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, that open late this month was unveiled on Sept. 8.

The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC) said the domestic casual clothing brand Musina Standard released the uniform's design for the opening ceremony on Sept. 23 and closing ceremony on Oct. 8.

Under the concept "People of White Clothes" and sporting ivory-colored denim, the outfit expresses the nation's folk tradition of wearing white clothes.

The eight pieces of the uniform include the upper and lower garments, belt, shoes and socks. The curved lines of the upper garment and embroidery on the lower one represent the paljakjibung, or a traditional four-edged roof with curved eaves leading to corners protruding upwards, on Hanok (traditional home).

Resembling the Chinese character for the number eight, the roof is the most common in Hanok. The button is shaped like a daebuk, a large traditional drum with the taegeuk (yin yang) design in the center, and the belt, shoes and socks have the emblem of the national flag and logo of the national team.

The functions of the uniform were also considered as well as design. For athletes to wear them comfortably in Hangzhou, which often has a high temperature and humidity, the clothes are made of the innovative fabrics Coolmax and Askin.

KSOC Secretary General Yoon Sung-wook said, "Through cool designs using symbols of the Republic of Korea and a new style for the opening and closing ceremonies' uniforms that embrace the younger generation, Team Korea can mark the beginning and end of the competition with pride."
