The national team at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, has won an additional five gold medals.
The squad from Sept. 25-26 added five golds, six silvers and eight bronzes to its overall medal count at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Center.
Team Korea won a gold each in taekwondo, shooting and fencing and two in swimming, bringing its gold count to 10.
In the men's 58-kg taekwondo sparring final on Sept. 25 at Lin'an Sports Culture & Exhibition Centre, Jang Jun (Korea Gas Tech Corp.) defeated Mahdi Hajimousaeinafouti of Iran, 2-0. Competing in his first Asiad, Jang won a bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The next day in the men's 10-m running target mixed run team event at Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre, Jeong You-jin (Cheongju City Hall in Chungcheongbuk-do Province), Ha Kwang-chul (Busan Metropolitan Government) and Kwak Yong-bin (Chungnam Sports Council) won with a combined score of 1,668. The squad had the same score as North Korea but prevailed due to a 39-29 advantage in hits at the center of the 10-point mark for the nation's first gold in the event.
The fencing final on Sept. 25 again featured two Korean competitors. Oh Sang-uk (Daejeon City Hall) bested Gu Bon-gil (Korea Sports Promotion Organization) in the men's individual sabre final at Hangzhou Dianzi University Gymnasium.
In men's swimming that day, Ji Yoo-chan (Daegu City Hall) won the 50-m freestyle at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Center with a time of 21.72 seconds as the first Korean to claim this event in 21 years.
In the men's 800-m freestyle relay, Yang Jae-hoon, Kim Woo-min and Hwang Sun-woo (Gangwon-do Province) and Lee Ho-joon (Daegu City Hall) swam their way to victory in an Asian record time of seven minutes, 1.73 seconds, securing their nation's first swimming team gold at an Asiad.
As of 6 p.m. on Sept. 26, Korea maintained its No. 2 ranking in the medal standings with 11 golds, 11 silvers and 15 bronzes. China remained in the lead with 40 golds, 21 silvers and 9 bronzes while Japan was third with five golds, 14 silvers and 12 bronzes.
