Korea on Oct. 4 captured its first gold medal in the archery recurve mixed team competition in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.


Lee Woo-seok (Kolon X10 Boys) and Lim Si-hyeon (Korea National Sport University) won their event at Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre, defeating Japan, 6-0, (38-37 37-35 39-35) in straight sets and earning Korea's first gold in the event at the continental competition.

Earlier in the day, the duo of Joo Jae-hoon (Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corp.) and So Chae-won (Hyundai Mobis) won silver in the mixed team archery compound final against India at the same venue.

In the men's high jump, national star Woo Sang-hyuk won the silver after a neck-and-neck duel with Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim by clearing 2.33 m at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. This was Woo's second consecutive runner-up finish after the 2018 Asiad in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.

Cyclist Na Ahreum (Samyang Corp.) won her ninth career medal in the competition with a silver in the women's individual road race at Chun'an Jieshou Sports Centre Cycling Road Course with a time of 3:36:07.

In soccer, Korea beat Uzbekistan in the semifinals to set up a chance for a third straight gold. Led by coach Hwang Sun-hong, the Taegeuk Warriors' 2-1 victory at Huanglong Sports Centre Stadium was thanks to both goals from Stuttgart (Germany) striker Jeong Woo-yeong. 


Korea faces Japan in the final on Oct. 7 at the same venue.

On Oct. 4, Korea added one gold, three silvers and five bronzes to stay third in the medal standings with 33 golds, 45 silvers and 70 bronzes. China remained No. 1 with 171 golds, 94 silvers and 51 bronzes while Japan was second with 37 golds, 51 silvers and 59 bronzes.
