More than 250,000 tickets have been reserved for the Winter Youth Olympics in Gangwon-do Province (Gangwon 2024) about two months since reservations were opened.

The competition's organizing committee on Jan. 8 cited the figure as of Jan. 7, with more than 100,000 tickets reserved last month alone since the start of reservations on Nov. 11.

Tickets for A seats at the opening ceremony were quickly snapped up upon release. Those for highly anticipated events such as figure skating, short track, speed skating and snowboarding were gone early given their high demand.

As a follow-up measure, the committee announced plans to offer additional seats for fully booked events, saying, "We will also add seats for events whose reservations were closed early."

Tickets are free for all events except the opening ceremony, which opens on Jan. 19 at the Gangneung Oval. Those interested in getting them should click Gangwon 2024's official website (gangwon2024.com).

Running from Jan. 19 to Feb. 1, Gangwon 2024 will feature more than 1,900 youth athletes ages 15-18 from more than 80 countries who will compete in 15 events in seven sports.
