A global taekwondo festival will open this week in Muju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province.
The organizing committee of the World Taekwondo Culture Expo on July 9 said the 17th edition of the event will run from July 18-23 at the taekwondo venue and park Taekwondowon in the county.
An estimated 2,500 athletes and 1,000 staff from 27 countries are expected to attend.
The events include a poomsae (forms) seminar for taekwondo practitioners, global taekwondo competition camp, demonstration contests, poomsae and sparring competitions, and high-level bouts.
At the opening ceremony on July 20, a troupe from Jeonbuk State Gugak Center will perform gugak (traditional music) and the Korea National Taekwondo Demonstration Team will perform.
In addition to taekwondo attractions, events will feature traditional Korean culture such through experiences and tours and side events like midsummer night concerts.
"The World Taekwondo Culture Expo, which has grown into a global festival for taekwondo practitioners, marks its 17th edition this year," committee chair Lee Byung-ha said. "Please show much support, as we've prepared many diverse events in addition to the festival."
