The national archery team has made history at the Paris Summer Olympics.

Kim Woojin on Aug. 4 beat Brady Ellison of the U.S. in the men's individual final, 6-5, in a shoot-off at Les Invalides in Paris for the gold, the 10th for Korea in this Olympics.

In an Olympic first for a Korean male competitor, Kim won three golds from the individual, team and mixed events. Bringing his career total to five, he became the country's leader in Olympic golds in either the Winter or Summer Games.


Not to be outdone was Lim Sihyeon, who also won three golds in the women's individual and team and mixed events.


By winning the men and women's team, mixed and women's individual events earlier, Korea for the first time in its history swept all five golds in Olympic archery.


The Paris Games was also the 10th straight Olympics for women's archery to win the team gold, a streak that began at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.


Nam Suhyeon won the silver in the women's individual and Lee Wooseok the bronze in the men's individual.

In women's boxing, Im Aeji settled for the bronze after losing, 3-2, to Hatice Akbas of Turkiye (Turkey) in the 54-kg semifinals at North Paris Arena. Im still made history with the first Olympic bronze in the sport for a Korean woman and the first in Olympic boxing -- male or female -- in 12 years.


In women's shooting, Yang Jiin, competing in her first Olympics, on Aug. 3 won the gold by beating Camille Jedrzejewski of France, 4-1, in a shoot-off in the individual 25 m pistol final at Chateauroux Shooting Centre.

In fencing, Yoon Jisu, Jeon Hayoung, Choi Sebin and Jeon Eunhye lost, 45-42, to Ukraine in the final of the women's team sabre at Grand Palais in Paris. The team's silver topped its bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as the team's best finish.


In judo, the national team beat Germany, 4-3, in the bronze match for the mixed team event at Champ-de-Mars Arena. Debuting at the 2020 Tokyo Games, the event pits three male (73, 90 and over 90 kg) and three female (57, 70 and over 70 kg) competitors on each team, with the first to win four matches earning victory.


In badminton, world No. 1 An Se Young on Aug. 5 seeks gold against He Bingjiao of China in the women's singles final at Porte de La Chapelle Arena.


As of the morning of Aug. 5 Korean Standard Time, the national team had 10 golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes for sixth in the overall rankings.
