The national mixed doubles curling team on Feb. 7 defeated Hong Kong in a playoff to clinch a semifinal berth at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.

At Harbin Pingfang District Curling Arena, the duo of Kim Kyungae and Seong Jihoon beat Ling-Yue Hung and Ho Tin Martin Yan, 11-4, for a spot in the final four.

The day before, Korea beat Kyrgyzstan in their final Group B game, 14-3, at the same venue.

The semifinal for Kim and Seong was to start on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. against China's Yu Han and Zhiyu Wang.

In ice hockey, the women's national team on Feb. 6 won its second straight game in Group B with a dominant 11-0 victory over Thailand at Harbin Sport University Student Ice Rink.

Held for the first time since the 2017 edition in Sapporo, Japan, the Winter Asiad on Feb. 7 will hold its opening ceremony at the Harbin International Convention and Exhibition Sports Center at 9 p.m. Korean Standard Time. The competition ends on Feb. 14.

About 1,500 athletes from 34 Asian countries are competing for 64 gold medals in 11 events spanning six sports like ice skating, skiing and curling. Korea's delegation comprises 223 members including 149 athletes.
