The women's national badminton team has claimed its first world title in four years.

Korea on May 2 defeated China, 3-1, in the final of the Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark.

World No. 1 An Se Young, who played in the first singles match, beat No. 2 Wang Zhiyi in straight sets (21-10 21-13). Kim Ga Un beat Chen Yufei in the third, and the duo of Baek Ha Na and Kim Hye Jeong took the fourth to clinch the championship.

The team thus lifted its third world title trophy following those in 2010 and 2022.

The biennial Uber Cup is the world's top team competition in women badminton and uses a best-of-five format comprising three singles and two doubles matches.

In mountaineering, Korea's Himalayan Sat Peak Expedition made history as the first in the world to conquer Sat Peak (6,220 m above sea level), an unclimbed mountain in the Sharpu massif of Nepal's Kanchenjunga region in the Himalayas.

The Korea Alpine Federation on May 3 said the seven-member team led by An Chi-young on May 2 at 4:15 p.m reached the summit.

This ascent was done in "Alpine style," or the method of going up with minimal climbing gear and without external support or fixed ropes.
