Ryu Haeran has won her second straight major tournament this year on the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).
She survived a neck-and-neck fight on July 12 in the final of the Amundi Evian Championship, the season's fourth event, at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France.
Finishing at 19-under 265, she forced a playoff against Brooke Henderson of Canada. The match was decided on the first playoff hole, the par-five 18th, after Ryu calmly sank a birdie to defeat Henderson, who only got par.
This was Ryu's second straight major win following her victory last month at the season's third major, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
She is the first Korean in seven years to win two majors in one season since Ko Jin-young in 2019. Ryu has won two of this year's four majors so far, with world No. 1 Nelly Korda of the U.S taking both the Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women's Open back to back.
"This," Ryu said after her win, fully wet in champagne and cradling the trophy in her left arm, "is just a dream right now."
