During the meeting, President Park emphasized the importance of reunification on the Korean Peninsula, a needed step to achieve peace, stability and prosperity in Korea as well as across Northeast Asia. She told the Mongolian Speaker of the House that unification in Korea would provide new growth momentum for Northeast Asia and contribute greatly to the growth of its neighboring countries, including Mongolia. The president asked Mongolia to take an interest in and to support her efforts in this regard.
President Park explained to Chairman Enkhbold her ”Eurasian initiative,” in which the Korean government aims to maximize the potential of the Eurasian continent and help all regions therein to achieve growth and development. She asked Mongolia to take part in the initiative, as well.
Chairman Enkhbold responded with “200 percent support” for the initiative and expressed the possibility of linking the Eurasian and Northeast Asian railway construction projects, one of the Mongolian government’s current plans.
Enkhbold said that he believes President Park’s vision of laying the foundation for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula will contribute to the development and prosperity of Northeast Asia. He added that President Elbegdorj would have wished to deliver his personal beliefs to his North Korean audience, as he himself has experienced both democracy and socialism.
