Prime Minister Chung held summit talks with the Pakistani prime minister on April 14. The two agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation and exchanges in business, trade, energy, infrastructure, the defense industry and the arts.

Chung said he hopes Korean firms would actively participate in major Pakistani infrastructure development projects, such as hydropower and coal power development, giving Korea the chance to share its experiences and technological knowhow with the country. Prior to the summit, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Korea-Pakistan trade and investment, agreeing to take measures to enhance bilateral trade and investment. The two countries also agreed to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in goods, services, trade and investment.

Both prime ministers agreed to stimulate trade between the two countries and push ahead the joint research efforts in the private sector that are looking into a Korea-Pakistan free trade agreement (FTA).

In regard to North Korean issues, Prime Minister Chung said that North Korea's nuclear weapons program poses a threat to Korea and the neighboring region. Chung asked Pakistan for its support of Seoul’s stance on that issue. His Pakistani counterpart responded that Pakistan has been supporting South Korea and will continue to do so.

Prime Minister Chung met with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain the next day to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations. Chung asked the Pakistani leader to take an interest in and actively support Korean firms and Korean residents in the country. This would increase cooperation in the resources and infrastructure sectors, emphasizing the mutually beneficial economic structure of the two countries.

President Hussain said he hopes Korean firms would be able to actively enter the Pakistani market, expressing high expectations of bolstering economic cooperation with Korea.

Chung is now the first Korean prime minister to visit Pakistan since 1983 when Korea and Pakistan first established diplomatic relationships.
