President Park Geun-hye met with a delegation of U.S. representatives on April 23 at Cheong Wa Dae. The delegation was composed of nine members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va.

In regard to the tragic sinking of the passenger ferry
Sewol, President Park expressed her gratitude to the U.S. government for expressing its sympathy, sending its condolences to the Korean people and providing support in many ways by sending its naval vessels and specialists to Korea.
Rep. Cantor said he felt great sadness because of the tragic ferry accident. He added that the pain felt by the family members of the victims would be unimaginable. Cantor expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the lost ones, and delivered words of consolation to the Korean people and their government.
Other U.S. representatives expressed their condolences and thanked President Park for meeting with them during a difficult time for the Korean government. Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, vice chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, chairwoman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, were among the meeting's attendees.
President Park expressed her thanks to the delegation and replied that she would deliver their words of condolences to the family members of the victims.
