Korea and Japan have agreed to expand tourism between the two nations. In a tourism ministers' meeting in Seoul on April 28, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo Jinryong and Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Akihiro Ota recognized the importance of increasing the exchange of tourists between the two countries and pledged to cooperate on increasing the flow of visitors.
The two sides agreed to develop plans that would boost bilateral tourism to mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of the Korea-Japan diplomatic relationship in 2015. They also intend to cooperate on promoting and marketing the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. Finally, the two ministries plan to cooperate on holding the seventh trilateral meeting between the tourism ministers of Korea, China and Japan as soon as possible.
