The Korean National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS).
With the MOU, the two organizations agreed to share research theses and technological information through exchanges, joint research projects and technology presentations involving scientists from the two countries. They also agreed to carry out special joint cooperation projects for the exchange, collection and use of genetic information.

When Korea's Rural Development Administration (RDA) visited Georgia last year to collect genetic information, GAAS President Guram Aleksidze proposed that the Korean delegation cooperate on joint research programs with his organization. The Georgian agricultural sciences authorities hope to cooperate with Korea on collecting, cultivating and preserving genetic information and conducting related joint research.
The RDA's Director of National Agrobiodiversity Kim Yeon-Gyu said, “This MOU will help Korea lay the foundation to secure useful plant genetic information about vegetables, fruit or medicinal crops from the Central Asian region.”
