Myths, folktales, epics and old stories about Asia will come back to life as new, interesting cultural content. The International Contest for Asian Creative Story will be held from June 30 to August 31 by the Hub City of Asian Culture Project, of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Creators of Webtoons and fairy tales based on "The 200 Stories of Asia" chosen by the culture ministry can apply to enter the contest, which marks its fourth year. Both individuals and groups of any age, gender or nationality can apply with creative works in Korean, English or Russian.

Judges will consider whether the submitted works show the universal values and features of Asia and whether they are capable of promoting a deeper understanding among nations.

The final screening will be held this September with members of the Asia Storytelling Committee and experts in the cultural sector.


A total of KRW 30 million will be awarded to the prize winners. The winner of the grand prize, the Asia Storytelling Committee Prize, will receive KRW 15 million. Each of the five winners of the culture ministers’ prizes from four Asian countries -- Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan -- will receive KRW 2 million. Each of the five winners of the Head of Hub City of Asian Culture Prize will receive KRW 1 million.

The award-winning works will be published and receive support so that they can be released as actual cultural content. Successful works from previous contests will be featured in the Asia Storytelling Festival, which will take place from September 25-28, based on the theme of “The 200 Stories of Asia.”
