One of Seoul's royal palaces will offer the opportunity for people to talk with well-known writers and artists and to enjoy the fresh air of autumn.

The Deoksugung Palace management office will run a series of special lectures this season, “Meet Celebrities at the Jeonggwanheon.” The program will feature well-known figures from the humanities and be held from September 17 to October 8 every Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Jeonggwanheon Pavilion is where Emperor Gojong (r. 1863-1907) of the Korean Empire (1897-1910) held banquets and enjoyed listening to music with coffee while residing at the palace.

Novelist Jo Jung-rae will deliver the first lecture on September 17 focusing on his life and literature. Jo is known for his books based on modern Korean history, such as the novels "The Taebaek Mountain Range" and “Arirang.” He will talk about the value of literature and share with the audience issues such as what living like a human being is like.

Choreographer Ahn Eun-Me will be the second person to give a lecture, on October 1. Ahn is known for her shocking, provocative and yet humorous dances. She will deliver the message that dance is the first step to remove one's thick, uncomfortable shell. Therefore, now is the time people need to break through the prejudices that bind them and shake their bodies.

Poet Chung Ho-sung will be the last lecturer on October 8. Known for poems that express feelings and love, in his lecture titled “Poems That Give Me Power In My Life,” Chung will introduce about ten poems of his and share the secrets of his life, a life that became the background for his poems. Audiences will be able to sympathize with the writer and have a chance to reflect on their own lives, too.

The program involves an autograph signing after each lecture. All the lectures will be catered with coffee and snacks.

To attend any of the lectures, you must book online in advance. Up to 200 people can apply for each lecture. Online bookings begin September 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the homepage of Deoksugung Palace (www.deoksugung.go.kr).
