President Park Geun-hye has expressed her willingness to hold high-level meetings with North Korean leaders, in a recent interview with the Reuters news agency.

In regard to possible high-ranking meetings between the two Koreas, Park said that she is, "ready to talk with anyone," in the hopes of overcoming the pain of division and to prepare for the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. She also emphasized that the North must show, "sincerity and a willingness to walk the talk," and not be engaged in merely, "talking for the sake of talking."

About the possibility of suggesting contact between the foreign ministers of both Koreas during her visit to the U.N. General Assembly next week, the president said, "If the opportunity does arise, and if they actually have the opportunity to respond and to take up our earlier offer to engage in high-level contact and dialogue, such an opportunity would be a good thing. If our foreign minister is also able to engage in dialogue at that particular point, that would also be a good thing."

When questioned about Seoul-Tokyo ties, Park said that solving the issue of the so-called "comfort women" would be a shortcut to ease the strain of the bilateral relationship. She said, "What we wish to see is an apology to these victims as well as a courageous decision on the part of Japanese political leadership to take measures to wholly restore honor to these victims."
