President Park Geun-hye met with former Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan at Cheong Wa Dae on October 21 to discuss issues involving the Korean Peninsula. Tang was visiting Korea to attend the 14th Korea-China Leaders Forum.

Tang reminded President Park that he met her seven times in total, whether in Seoul or Beijing. In regard to the Korea-China summit between President Park and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit in Milan, Italy, last week, he said, “Many Chinese media outlets reported the meeting. They highly valued the common understanding between the two leaders.”

In regard to the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing in two weeks, Tang said, “President Xi Jinping and President Park will have an important summit meeting. President Park is a Korean leader and our precious guest who receives a lot of respect from China. President Park is our friend who shows friendliness to the Chinese people.”

President Park told the Chinese official that, “I’m glad to see you again. It is impressive to see your active engagement in the development of the relationship between Korea and China, even after your retirement.”

The president praised his contributions, saying, “You have a very deep understanding and affection to the development of the Korea-China relationship. Korea and China made remarkable progress last year.”
