President Park Geun-hye proposed the introduction of a transportation card that could be used anywhere in the 22 member states of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on November 11.
President Park Geun-hye speaks during the APEC Leaders’ Meeting on November 11 in Beijing.
The card President Park proposed needs a standardized system of public transport fare technology. It would allow people to use any type of public transport, railroad or expressway with one card, anywhere within APEC. This is similar to Korea’s national “One Card All Pass” system.
Park proposed the plan as a measure to enhance regional connectivity and promote the liberalization of trade and investment across APEC countries. Her proposal is reflected in the implementation report of the APEC Connectivity Blueprint.
The president also proposed to expand the introduction of the Authorized Economic Operator Mutual Recognition Agreement in order to shorten the clearance time for shipped goods and reduce logistics cost. Under the agreement, selected companies authorized by the customs office can receive expedited customs procedures and services.
President Park explained the time-saving effects of the agreement with more detailed cases and received support from the APEC participating leaders.
