“In order to lift the world out of a state of low economic growth, we need to find new growth engines. The answer lies in the creative industries which create added value, develop good ideas and build new advanced technologies.”

President Park Geun-hye made those remarks during the opening ceremony for the Creative Korea 2014 conference that kicked off at COEX in southern Seoul on November 27. The Creative Korea 2014 conference is a government-led fair aimed at promoting entrepreneurship across different industries.

Park spoke about her administration's continued efforts to "realize" the creative industries, such as this conference, which is an example of what the president called, “a platform designed to gather new ideas from individuals from all walks of life across the nation.” She also said that 17 “Creative Economy Innovation Centers” are being set up in major cities across the nation.

“Such government-led policies are now producing tangible results, coupled with efforts being made by start-up businesses,” the president said.

“Children and youth, full of curiosity and imagination, young entrepreneurs who dare to risk failure and face challenges, working moms who start their own businesses to share with the world their ideas discovered in daily life and venture entrepreneurs who endeavor to advance in global markets armed with state-of-the-art technologies: you are the leaders that can make our 'creative industries' goal come true,” the president said.

“The government will provide continued support to help your ideas and to make sure your ‘give-it-a-go’ spirit bears fruit in the end,” she said.

During the meeting, the president emphasized that, “All failures are great, real lessons for entrepreneurs. You’ve got to have a mindset that says, ‘Ok, I will surely achieve success in the end, based on these failures,’ like a roly-poly toy that bounces back no matter what. Such spirit is no less important than developing new technical skills or one's creativity.”
