Korea and Indonesia have joined forces on mechanized rice farming in the Southeast Asian nation.
A ceremony recently marked the completion of a mechanized rice farming complex in Banjarnegara, a town in Central Java, Indonesia, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) announced on December 24.
The project to build a mechanized rice farming plant in Indonesia started in November 2011 to help improve farming productivity in Indonesia. It involved the construction of a farming machine maintenance shop, storage facilities and a rice milling plant, among other things.
The agriculture ministry provided the farming machines, including tractors and cultivators. Indonesian government officials and farmers were also offered training on the maintenance and operation of the equipment and rice farming techniques.
A mechanized rice farming complex includes farming machine storage and maintenance shops and a rice milling plant.
Government officials from both Korea and Indonesia, including Mr. Raihan Yomni S., head of the project management unit at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, attended a ceremony to mark the completion of the complex on December 19.
"This mechanized rice farming complex is the center of farming mechanization in Indonesia," said Mr. Raihan Yomni S. "We are going to continue farming mechanization and will use this place as a venue to train local farmers on mechanized farming techniques."
"I hope Korea will continue to share its farming technology with Indonesia so that Indonesian farmers can improve their productivity in farming and increase their income," he added.
Farming machines provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs are stored and maintained at the mechanized rice farming complex.
"With the completion of this complex, we will be able to spread a farming mechanization model in Indonesia and train farming machine professionals. This will contribute to increasing Indonesia's farming productivity," said an official at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
"It will help expand the exchange of farming technologies between Korea and Indonesia and strengthen overall food security."
