The government issued a statement via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 8 concerning the recent deadly terrorist attack on the French weekly Charlie Hebdo that took place in Paris on January 7.

In the statement, the Korean government strongly criticized the cruel attack and offered its condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to those who lost their lives in the attack.

“The government cannot be but shocked over the terrorist attack on the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo that claimed the lives of police officers and many others. We strongly condemn such acts of terrorism,” the statement said.

“The government prays for the repose of the innocent people killed in the terrorist attack and offers its deepest condolences and consolation to their bereaved families, as well as to the French people.”

It continued to say that, “We support efforts by the French government to fight terrorism and will continue to participate actively in the efforts of the international community, including those of the U.N., to eradicate such acts of terrorism, with its firm position that terrorist acts are crimes against humanity that cannot be justified under any circumstances and should be eradicated by all means."
