President Park said that after the summit between Korea and the UAE in March, bilateral cooperation has expanded to include high-value industries, such as the medical, health and food sectors, in addition to existing sectors, such as energy. The president said that with the World Water Forum, bilateral cooperation on water resources would be further expanded. The president also hoped that bilateral cooperation would help the forum have a successful outcome and that such cooperation would become a role model for solving water problems across the international community.

President Park said both Korea's state corporations and private companies have world-class technology and experience in desalination and renewable energy technology, such as solar power generation, in which the UAE has a great interest. The president expected that that the two nations would pursue various joint projects in those areas.

President Park appreciated that the UAE has shown great interest recently in investing in Korea. The president said that Korea has signed free trade agreements (FTAs) with the three biggest economic blocks or countries in the world -- the U.S, China and the European Union -- and that the country is now an attractive destination for foreign direct investment. The president expects further interest and investment in Korea from the UAE, as the FTAs combined with the country's manufacturing competence can create synergies and produce new business opportunities.

The president brought up the fact that the two nations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in March to jointly enter third-country markets and expected that Korea's technology and the UAE's network and finance industry could be combined to win infrastructure projects in third nations and to produce a range of accomplishments.

Chairman Hamed said he discussed plans for cooperation on desalination plants and solar power generation with his Korean counterparts and talked about joint overseas investment with the Korea Investment Corporation. Chairman Hamed also said he visited Korean hospitals and was able to personally confirm Korea's advanced medical standards. The chairman proceeded to say that he would make efforts so that Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's vision of bilateral cooperation becoming a role model for other countries across the Middle East.
