Mentioning agreements on a variety of sectors -- energy, construction, health care and IT -- agreements made during her summit with the emir of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, last March, President Park expressed her gratitude for Al-Ghanim’s keen interest in them and for taking follow-up action.
“The biggest achievement of the March summit is that the two countries reaffirmed deep, sound trust in each other and shared a common consensus on how to march down a more cooperative path,” said the president. “Hopefully, our cooperative relations with Kuwait will grow in terms of cooperation on joint projects involving not only infrastructure, but also new areas of cooperation, such as developing a smart grid, IT and cyber security,” she added.
In response, Al-Ghanim stressed that, “The MOU signed during the Korea-Kuwait summit is being carried out smoothly. In the healthcare sector, in particular, we’ve seen rapid progress being made, as can be seen in Kuwait’s health minister’s upcoming visit to Korea next month.”
“The Kuwaiti National Assembly will take proper legislative action to allow Korean doctors to come and practice in our country, too. We will also help make it easier for Kuwaiti patients to get medical treatment in Korea,” he added.
“We maintain the strongest, closest economic partnership with Korea among any other Asian countries. We most-value our relationship with Korea, as the relationship is based on mutual trust and on lots of common sense that both countries share.”
President Park also mentioned the rising popularity of Korean pop music among Kuwaiti youth, saying, “Interactions, cultural activity and, also, human-to-human connections, are crucial in making a future-oriented relationship between Korea and Kuwait. These exchanges will, hopefully, bring together young people of the two countries.”

“We fully support the Korean government’s inter-Korean policy. We have been and will always be on your side in this matter,” said Al-Ghanim on the North Korea issue. “We, the Kuwaiti government, the National Assembly and the people, alike, firmly raise our voice against any form of provocation from North Korea, such as its ceaseless tests of short- and long-range missiles.”
In response, President Park said, “I feel reassured knowing your firm support for us. I ask for your continued support.”
