President Park Geun-hye and President Thein Sein, her Myanmar counterpart, exchanged letters of congratulations in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

President Park said that the bilateral cooperative relationship has developed in almost every sector, including politics, business and the arts, since 1975 when the two nations established diplomatic ties. She expressed her gratitude that the two nations have continued to expand the scope of their cooperation on trade, investment and labor. President Park went on to say that it was meaningful for the two countries to discuss the future cooperation of Korea and ASEAN at the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit Meeting last December, co-chaired by Korea and Myanmar.

Myanmar President Thein Sein said that their bilateral cooperation has expanded quite a lot in terms of its scope and level, ever since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He noted that the visits of the heads of state to each other's countries have made great contributions to the development of the bilateral relationship.

He also expressed his gratitude for Korea's support in his nation's reform, having given some financial support and aid in the development of technologies. He said he is satisfied with the deepened economic cooperation between the two countries and he expressed his expectation to see an increased volume of trade in the future.
