Korea and a range of African nations will step up bilateral cooperation in the field of aviation.

On May 19, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) signed an MOU with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Maputo, Mozambique. Under the agreement, Korea will dispatch aviation experts to some African nations to help train and work with people engaged in the aviation industry.

With the agreement, the Korean government will send a group of educators in the second half of the year to develop professional manpower in the field there.

The MOLIT has offered a series of training programs since 2001, in which people involved in the aviation industry were invited to Korea to get some expertise in the field. These programs are part of the ministry’s efforts to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation on aviation, and to help the domestic aviation industry make headway in other parts of the world.

According to the ministry’s data, as of last year, 1,242 people from about 112 countries from Europe, Asia and the Middle East have enrolled in its training courses.

“We will not only continue the existing invitational programs, but take a new approach toward educating local aviation specialists, such as by dispatching our experts there. This will help develop the civil aviation industries worldwide in a more balanced manner,” said an official from the MOLIT.
