A recent event brought together college students from Korea, Japan and China to talk about the future of Northeast Asia and ways to achieve peace across the region.

On July 18, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the “2016 Diplomatic Camp For College Students from Korea, Japan and China” in Goseong, Gangwon-do Province.

Launched in 2012, the ministry’s camp now marks its fifth year and is part of the ministry’s 2016 project aimed at building networks among youth from the three countries. Running until July 21, the event will allow the students to build friendships by talking about their experiences that have helped increase trilateral cooperation, the exchange of ideas to further trilateral cooperation, and, lastly, sharing their struggles that they currently face.

A trip to the Goseong Unification Observatory is planned to give the students a better understanding of the need for a better future among the three countries, as well as for peace across Northeast Asia.

The ministry plans to host more such events, such as mock conferences, like the one soon scheduled to be held in Japan, and essay writing competitions.
