President Park Geun-hye met with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, who also goes by the Korean name Son Jeong-ui, on Sept. 30 to discuss investment possibilities between SoftBank Group and Korean firms. They shared their views on measures to create new industries, and on future cooperation.

President Park said that she hopes that SoftBank’s cooperation with Korean firms can be further bolstered in order to generate engines of future economic growth, and to create more jobs. She called on the SoftBank CEO to expand investments in Korea, especially in new industrial sectors such as smart robots, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).

President Park explained to the SoftBank CEO the Korean government’s initiatives to foster new energy sectors, including renewable energies and smart grids. She also told Son about the nine selected national strategic projects that are underway, including autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and smart cities.

Finally, the president called for the SoftBank CEO to actively invest in Korean firms, introducing her administration’s continuing regulatory reforms that aim to boost investment.
