The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assures top diplomats from foreign missions that the Korean government will maintain an unwavering diplomatic and security policy line under the leadership of Acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned ambassadors from the U.S., Japan, China, Russia and the European Union on Dec. 9, to brief them on the impeachment process of the President.

The ministry affirmed that the Korean government will maintain an unwavering diplomatic and security policy line under the leadership of Acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.

The government will maintain and improve cooperation between allies, in particular between Korea and the U.S., and will uphold its firm stance on major diplomatic issues, such as North Korean nuclear weapons, the ministry stressed.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se also held talks with U.S. Ambassador to Korea, Mark Lippert, and affirmed that the Korea-U.S. alliance remained firm and would become stronger.

Based on the sound Korea-U.S. cooperation, the minister reaffirmed that Seoul would continue to work on major diplomatic and security issues, such as North Korean nuclear weapons, as well as issues concerning the Korea-U.S. alliance. In this regard, the minister called upon the U.S. top envoy in South Korea to help the government in their efforts to pursue their aims.

Minister Yoon pledged that the ministry will host major diplomatic events as scheduled, including the six-party nuclear talks between Korea, the U.S., Japan, slated for Dec. 13, and the launch of the Korea-U.S. Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group (EDSCG).

The U.S. ambassador said, “Regardless of domestic affairs, the Korea-U.S. alliance is strong and will continue to be strong. The U.S. defense policy toward South Korea remains firm.” He continued, “At this grave time, we will continue to work closely with the government on all issues facing us, like North Korean nuclear programs.”
