Korea has decided to actively support the modernization of the customs system in El Salvador.
The customs authorities of the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Seoul on Nov. 17 covering cooperation on and support for modernizing the customs clearance system in El Salvador.
According to the MOU, the Korea Customs Service (KCS) will actively support El Salvador in order to set up a risk management system and establish key modules of the UNI-PASS system, Korea’s automated customs clearance system.
A risk management system is a series of computers that integrates and manages information about at-risk cargo that's related to terrorism or drugs, or which categorizes certain tourist profiles that might have a propensity to commit crimes.
The UNI-PASS system is an online customs clearance system that manages registration of both exported and imported items, and the customs inspection process.
The KCS has been sharing its UNI-PASS expertise since 2005 with 11 countries, including Ethiopia, Cameroon, Uzbekistan and Tanzania.
