The MUHAS Medical Center, a new hospital in Dar es Salaam, opened in the Tanzanian capital on Nov. 25 with support from the Korean government.

The Korean government helped establish the hospital through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund and gave funds worth around USD 76.5 million.

It has 600 beds and 14 medical divisions, including an internal medicine, gynecology and pediatrics department. It's also equipped with high-tech medical facilities and apparatuses.

The ministry hopes that the newly built MUHAS Medical Center can meet the demand for health and medical care in Tanzania and help foster a talented workforce in the medical sector. This would contribute to reducing the death rate of newborn babies and pregnant women, and to improving the overall service of health and medical care in the country.
